The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has issued guidance for the selection of pharmacists based on the following factors:

Pharmacists should be aware that there are a number of different drug-drug interactions

- One person may interact with 50mg of tadalafil or dapoxetine for the first time. The drug may also interact with nitrates.

- The drug may interact with pimozide and a nitrate drug for the first time. This drug may also interact with alpha-blockers or other drugs that lower blood pressure.

- The drug may interact with other antihypertensive medications, such as thiazide diuretics, which are commonly used to treat high blood pressure and hypertension.

- The drug may interact with alpha-blockers or other drugs that lower blood pressure. This is because they reduce the blood pressure in the brain, and these drugs can also reduce the blood pressure in the heart, which may cause the heart to become unbalanced.

- The drug may interact with certain medications for HIV or AIDS.

- The drug may interact with HIV drugs for people living with HIV (PLWH) or people living with AIDS (LAWA) and people with AIDS. These drugs are also sometimes used to treat high blood pressure. These drugs should not be combined with tadalafil or dapoxetine.

- The drug may interact with certain antidepressants. These include tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

- The drug may interact with alpha-blockers and other medications for depression. These include tricyclic antidepressants, thiazide diuretics, aldosterone antagonists, phenothiazines and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

- The drug may interact with HIV drugs for people living with HIV (PLWH) or people living with AIDS.

- The drug may interact with medications for high blood pressure and heart disease.

- The drug may interact with medications for diabetes.

- The drug may interact with alpha-blockers.

- The drug may interact with medications for anxiety or depression. These drugs may also cause the heart to be hyperbaric levels. This can result in a heart attack or stroke.

- The drug may interact with certain medications for blood pressure.

- The drug may interact with certain drugs for high blood pressure.

- The drug may interact with the blood pressure medicines (eg. ACE inhibitors and digoxin).

- The drug may interact with certain medicines for diabetes or with certain medications for high blood pressure.

- The drug may interact with certain drugs for HIV. These include ritonavir, saquinavir, saquinavir plus nelfinavir (Norvir), and dapoxetine.

- The drug may interact with HIV drugs for people living with HIV (PLWH).

- The drug may interact with the blood pressure medications (eg. ACE inhibitors) and certain antifungal medicines.

- The drug may interact with certain antibiotics.

Drug-Drug Interactions:Inform the doctor if you are taking phenothiazine (thioridazine), anti-psychotic (lithium), antibiotic (linezolid, telithromycin, erythromycin, clarithromycin), an amino acid (tryptophan), pain killer (tramadol, ibuprofen, aspirin), anti-HIV (ritonavir, saquinavir, nelfinavir, atazanavir, amprenavir, fosamprenavir), anti-fungal (ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole), anti-depressant (nefazodone), blood thinner (warfarin), impotent agents (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil), calcium channel blocker (diltiazem, verapamil), anti-emetics (aprepitant), BPH agents and anti-migraine medicines.

Drug-Food Interactions:Do not take St. John’s wort (herbal supplement used to treat depression) while taking Dapoxetine. Avoid consuming grapefruit juice within 24 hours of taking Dapoxetine as it could lead to an increase in the level of Dapoxetine in the body.

Drug-Disease Interactions:Inform the doctor if you have cardiovascular/heart disease, a history of dizziness due to low blood pressure, depression, mania, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, epilepsy/fits, bleeding or blood clotting problems, glaucoma, kidney problems, or moderate to severe liver problems.

Appropriate medical advice is required from the doctor before taking Dapoxetine. Dapoxetine is not recommended for use in individuals with a hypersensitivity/anxiety reaction. avoided during pregnancy.

Consult the doctor regarding the potential side effects. Dapoxetine is not safe if you are taking other antidepressants, including amitriptyline and imipramine, tricyclic antidepressants (neurosurgical drugs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (e.g. amitriptyline, imipramine, clomipramine) or dopamine agonists (e.g. doxepin). Dapoxetine should not be taken if you have severe liver/ kidney problems. Dapoxetine is not recommended in individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions to Dapoxetine unless directed by the doctor. grapefruit juice could interact with Dapoxetine. avoid sexual activity in individuals who use Dapoxetine [Dapoxetine overdose] or with its contra-indications [low urinary tract symptoms, urinary incontinence, urinary incontinence with anuria, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUMS) or cystitis].

The doctor should evaluate your medical history and present the complete medical history, current medications, and/or medical condition you are taking Dapoxetine.

Priligy: The New Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Priligy tablets, containing dapoxetine (Priligy) and its generic equivalent, sildenafil (Viagra), have been in use since 1998. In the US in 2004, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved dapoxetine for treatment of premature ejaculation, and in 2012, the drug was approved for use as a first-line treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED).

Priligy is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, a neurotransmitter associated with ejaculation. It also improves the ability to predict the time it takes to ejaculate and is believed to have some effects on sexual desire. The FDA also approved the drug for treating premature ejaculation, which is when a man ejaculates earlier than desired. In other cases, a man may be able to take the medication off-label to treat premature ejaculation.

The active ingredient in Priligy is dapoxetine, and it is used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). Dapoxetine is available as a generic alternative to Viagra. It is also available as an oral tablet.
